GENDER FOCUS

HOW DOES FISA FOCUS ON GENDER?

As film funding institution and top financier, we also see our responsibility to turn the Austrian film industry into an industry for, by and with women.

Women are not only underrepresented in domestic industry and less often found in management roles, but are marginalized in terms of language and content. That is why it is important to us to counteract this through various initiatives and priorities and thus to promote gender-equitable conditions.

So far we have been able to draw attention to this through the following measures:

  • consideration in the Cultural Test
    • Points for female Head of Departments in the fields of scriptwriting, directing, cinematography and production
  • financial incentive through "Gender Gap Financing"
  • screen writing contest "Heldinnen in Serie"
  • creating awareness through:
    • gender-appropriate formulation of the guidelines
    • news on gender topics

HOW DOES THE GENDER GAP FINANCING WORK?

The FISA grant for Austrian productions and co-productions can be increased by a lump sum of EUR 25,000 as part of the gender gap financing if the following points apply:

  • achievement of a defined target value (minimum number of points) for female employees in head departments

  • existence of a financing requirement

For the gender gap financing, the various upper limits for calculating the FISA grant are not taken into account.

Points can only be awarded to one female employee per department. If there are two or more heads of equal value from one and the same department, 50 percent of the points provided for the respective department will be awarded to the female employee.

If a female employee holds different Heads of Departments, a maximum of two departments can be considered.
